2017 Oregon

June 12, 2017

Drove over to Ilwaco, WA to hike around the lighthouses.  Walked around the North Head lighthouse, even though it's misting, it was a great hike.  They are in the process of remodeling, so we could get all that close.

Took a walk around Beard's point, marsh area near the lighthouse.   We then headed to Discovery point but the rain is not steady, so decided to bag it.   Drove into Ilwaco, look around and then headed back to Astoria.

Caught up with Doug and Naomi Frost for lunch, while eating, Lee and Vicki Dillard came in (also friends from Havasu), the 6 of us caught up since we haven't seen each other since these two couples left Havasu in April.  It's amazing how small this world is!!!

On the way back to the coach, we stopped and visited with Shelley, Steve was at work.  Said our goodbyes and then headed to the coach.   Raining still, so it will be an afternoon of movies.

June 11, 2017

Met Steve and Shelley for breakfast.  Went into Warren to a restaurant called Arnie's, great food and large portions.  There we ran into Mark Smith and his family, it's such a small world.

After breakfast, we went a played nine holes of golf at Highlands Golf Course, one of my favorite 9 hole courses.  Too bad I didn't play better!!!

Came home and Bobby is doing laundry, while I catch up on house work and my blog.  Later we'll go back to Steve and Shelly's for dinner.

June 10, 2017

Went and explored downtown Seaside!   Not much other than a few stores has changed, which is a good thing I think!   It's raining, so we did not spend much time looking around.

Spent the afternoon with Steve and Shelly's, caught up on the happenings since I last time seeing each other, which was 2 years ago.   Their new home is a beautiful ranch style home on 1 acre, about 1 mile from the beach.   They have deer and elk, of which they've had to put up a fence to keep them out!   They eat anything and everything in site!!!  Went to a Mexican restaurant in Astoria for dinner.

June 9, 2017

Sea Lions at East Basin
Got into Seaside around 11, then headed to Warren where we needed to buy a few things...bought a stand-up board.   Hopefully we'll be able to give it a try soon.  Hoping it won't be too much work for this old couple!!!!

Contacted our friends Steve and Shelley, found out where Steve was working and headed to his shop.   They were just returning from lunch, so we visited for a short period, agreeing we'd meet tomorrow afternoon.
Elk near Astoria, OR
Drove into Astoria, now this town has changed!!!   Lots of new buildings, condos, apartments, etc.   Steve told us the sea lions have taken over East Basin Mooring, so we went there, sure enough, sea lions everywhere.   No sure how they intend to control them, but per Steve, they have gotten onto the sterns of some boats and sank them.   At 1,000 lbs, it certainly is possible!!!

Weather is cold and raining, so we just stayed in for the evening and watched movies.   Will be glad when the sun comes out!!!

June 8, 2017

Went to breakfast in town and then headed to the Tillamook Air Museum.  This area used to house the Blimps back in World War II.   Only one of the two structures still exist, as building A burnt in 1992.

They only have one small blimp but many other planes on display.   Also have a movie and nice exhibit that talks about the blimps, WWII and other events, like the Hindenburg, etc.

We spent about 2 hrs looking around, if you go, take coats, the hanger is huge, damp and cold!!!

Drove out to the Tillamook Cheese Factory, the main touring area is under remodel, so you only get to sample some cheese and buy their products.   Nothing better than Tillamook cheese!!!

It's raining so we decided to head back to coach, we are not used to this cold damp weather!!!

June 7, 2017

Last day in Lincoln City.   Margie had a drs appt with the disease specialist and asked me to go with her, so we drove to Depot Bay to meet with him.   I really liked this dr. even though he did not know what is causing her platelets to increase.   He asked her many questions and determined that he needs to run additional tests in 1-2 months.   Sure hope they can find the cause, she's tired of not knowing.

Got back to the coach around 1:30 and then we headed to Tillamook.  To the scenic route along the three capes, mistake, as the road is very bumpy and in need of many repairs.  However it is scenic and we got to see great views of the oceans.

Arrived around 3, got settled and then headed to Cape Mears.   Toured the light house, went for a walk and just admired the ocean!   When we left it was starting to rain!   Supposed to be wet the next 2-3 days.

June 6, 2017
Played golf at Chinook Winds golf course.  Not exactly what I remember but a very nice course, with

challenging par threes and fast greens.   The length is short, only 4,400 yards, so we both played from the blues (tips).   Lost several balls but what can I say!!!

Went to our favorite restaurant, 60's CafĂ© for lunch.  They have delicious milkshakes, hamburgers and fries.

Caught up with Margie at Goodwill, we then went to a couple of Antique stores, looked in glass blowing shops and just looked at the ocean!   It has been nice to get to spend some quality time with her over these past few days.

June 5, 2017

I wanted to go to Otter Crest, been many years since we've seen this area.   It hasn't changed and still offers stunning views of the ocean and of devils punch bowl.

Further down the beach is Yaquina Head Lighthouse, there we got to see gray whales!!!   We saw around 12-15, mostly blows but we saw several roll over and one showed his tail!!!!   The lighthouse was not open, so we did not walk up to the light.

Drove down to the tide pools but tide was not out for us to see much.   Then we drove to Depot Bay, by this time, tide was out so the blow hole was not active  Walked around the shops and then head back towards Lincoln City, admiring the beauty of the Oregon Coast.

Went back to Lincoln City and then I caught up with my sister.  We goofed off, looking at local attractions, visiting, etc.   She drove me home afterwards, as Bobby left us about 3 hrs prior.  Needed some sister time!!

June 4, 2017

Left Portland around 8:30 and headed to  Lincoln City via route through Salem.  Not much traffic so trip was quick and simple.   Got to Chinook Bend RV park, set up and then headed into Lincoln City to the farmers market.

Town has changed since the last time we were here, except some stores have moved from one end to the other.   Still not big name stores, this is truly and tourist town.

June 3, 2017

Today is a catch up day.  Cleaned house, did a little laundry, worked on my blog, etc.   Later this afternoon we'll head toward Canby, where we'll get together with Aunt Boo and hopefully several of the cousins.

June 2, 2017

Broadmoor Golf Course
Played golf at Broadmoor Golf Course, went and did a little shopping, bought nothing!!!!

Later we went to dinner with our long time friends Arlan and Caroline Walker.   It was so good to see them.  After visiting for a couple of hrs, they took us to their favorite Chinese restaurant, it was excellent and the portions were HUGE!!!  Brought over 3/4 of mine home!

June 1, 2017

Went over to the Expo Center and walked around the RV show, didn't see anything I couldn't live without!!!

My glasses (yes, need classes for long distance) are in, so headed to Kaiser and picked them up.

Went to Lowe's and bought a new faucet for the kitchen sink, Bobby did a great job in replacing it.   Works like a charm!!!

May 31, 2017

Bill Preston anBobby

Bobby had breakfast with his good friend Bill Preston, while I went to drs. for additional blood work and to order my new glasses.

Then we drove to Scappoose to see our friends Dave and Nancy Parish, they also have a space in HRVR plus Nancy and I have each other for over 25 years.
Nancy & Dave

Had another Eye test at 4, apparently they are measuring the circumference of my eye, one seems bigger than the other.   Hopefully tests don't show anything unusual.  Will keep you posted.

May 30, 2017

Jo, Mark, Conni, Olga, Bobby and Dan
Had drs appts set up for most of the day.   Everything is ship shape except I need to have an additional eye test, want to measure the circumference  of my eyes.   That's now scheduled for tomorrow along with an additional blood test.
One of Conni's cats

Tonight we are going to Mark & Conni's, where we'll catch up with Danny & Olga again.
More about the evening, later.

Weather is COLD and wet.   We certainly don't miss this rain!!!!

Had a wonderful dinner at Mark & Conni's, always the best hosts!!!   Certainly miss these two couples.

May 29,  2017

Danny, Olga and Jo
Visited with Sarah Ronne, it was so good to see her.  She's doing great, certainly misses Tom but doing great otherwise.

Then went to Washington Square, bought some new pans and a bedspread.   Macy's has a great deal going on for Memorial Day.

At Top Golf, Dan, Jo, Bobby & Olga
Danny & Olga live out in that area, so we dropped in to see them.  Visited for an hour or so then they took us to Top Golf, where we played golf for an hour.   This facility allows you to play golf from tiered levels, vey cool!!!   Had a blast!!

For dinner, we went to Helvetia Tavern, still had wonderful hamburgers!!!

May 28,  2017

Had breakfast at Broadmoor Golf Course, saw the old gang!   Also got to visit with Mark Haffey, as he works at the shack.  We'll have dinner with him and Connie later this week.

Drove over to Vancouver Farmers Market, sure wish we could have bought some of the flowers for our yard, but taking them into Canada is a no, no.

Came back to RV, washed windows, caught up on laundry and Bobby is watching racing.  I'll go for a walk later along the Columbia, so pretty here.

May 27,  2017

Left Bend around 8, drove to Madras where we had breakfast and then continued onto to Portland.  It was beautiful coming over Mt. Hood, they certainly got plenty of snow, Saw very little along the roads but lots on the mountain.

Went to Costco on the way into town, they now have diesel, so we filled up, much cheaper than anywhere else!  Bobby unhooked the truck so I went and got mail, went to Kaiser to get blood work done, stopped at Walmart, etc.   Thank goodness we know Portland as traffic is soooooo heavy around here.

Got to park and found our spot, to little to put truck on so we had to move, that's always a hassle for at least they found us a larger spot, this park is packed!

Went for a walk around 9, love the fact that it's almost daylight until 9 PM!!!!

May 26, 2017

Played golf with Ron and Kathi at Eagle Crest on the Resort Course.

Had fun, it was more about visiting than actually playing golf, but at least the weather was beautiful and had lovely company.

After golf went to their place, lovely home near the 13th fairway on the Resort Course, which is what we played.

Visited for about 3 hours and then went to dinner at Niblick and Greenies Restaurant.  I had mini corn dogs!!!!   They were so good!!!  Bobby had stroganoff.

On the way home, we could see a forest fire burning south of South Sisters Mt.   Sad that the season is already starting.

May 25, 2017

Played golf with our friends Mike & Diane Guberman at their course, Bend Country Club.  Amazing course with some of the toughest greens to read we've ever encountered.

After golf we had lunch with them at the club, then headed home to rest....been an very busy week!!!

May 24, 2017

Had breakfast at IHOP, then came home so I could work on my golf letters for the upcoming tournament in November.

Around noon we head to Ed Cherrier's home (He and Bobby used to play squash together in Portland), met him at his condo her in Bend.  Found out him and Connie are divorcing, very sad.  Spent about 1.5 hrs visiting and then Ed took us for a driving, showing us his home course (Widge), Thetherow (very expensive course) and then to the Old Mill District,   Had lunch at Greg's Grill, located on the Deschutes River.   Great lunch and wonderful company.

Called Norm and Joan Brookhart, old friends from HRVR.   Went to their home, it's just around the corner from Mike and Diane, but they don't know each other.   Had a great visit, caught up on each other travels, been six years since we saw them.

Our last stop for the day was Glen & Cathy Spurlocks, they also live in the same neighbor hood as the other two (Joan & Norma and Mike & Diane), fun that we know three couples in that area who do not know each other!   We've know Glen and Cathy since our early days at Tyee, so we talked about Tyee, their move from Florida to here 6 years ago and how Cathy's uncle Arlan is doing.   We'll see Arlan and Caroline when in Portland.

A very long day, gone almost 10 hrs, but had so much fun visiting and catching up with wonderful friends.

May 23, 2017

Drove over to Sisters to locate the spot on the Metolious River where Mom & Dad's ashes are spread.  It's been 7 years since we spread Dad's ashes and you wouldn't believe how the terrain has changed.  The main road is still their but not the other roads, motor vehicles are not allowed into all the areas we used to go.  Changes!!!!   We were able to find the general area and saw the creek, said hello to Mom & Dad, took a few pics and reminisced about them.

Drove over to head of the Metolious, I still love this area.  Nothing more beautiful and the air smells so clean!!!   And it's so GREEN!!!

Went to Camp Sherman, looked around the store, looked for fish at the bridge (absolutely none) and took in the views.  So many wonderful memories for me!!!

Drove back to Sisters, stopping at Black Butte to see the changes, not many.  Looked around town at the shops and had lunch at Mexican restaurant.

Got back to the coach around 2 and then headed to Mike and Diane's for cocktails.  Had a great visit and caught up on each others lives.  They just bought this home 9 months ago, so still are settling in, they are glad to be back in Oregon but do miss Florida!

May 22, 2017

Drove from Baker City to Bend, beautiful drive although we could see damage from forest fires that occurred last summer and year before.

Met up with Lee and Ruth Wick around 4, had cocktails, saw their beautiful home and talked about changes that are happening in each others lives.

May 21, 2017

Played golf at Quail Ridge Golf Course, tough little course.  Then we headed to Konnie and Gary's, they took us to Sumpter.  There we toured the Sumpter Dredge, an amazing piece of machinery that was used to dredge for gold.

They then took us to an Italian dinner at Carol's Mad Dog in Sumpter.   The drive along the Powder River was breath taking.   We passed Phillips Lake, brought back memories of days when Dad would take the family fishing and camping....oh how I miss those days!!!

May 20, 2017

Got up and decided I wanted to drive to Anthony Lakes, it's cold out, only 54 but thought it would be beautiful day to take a hike.   Wrong answer!!!   Got to Anthony Lakes (the drive up is stunning, especially with all the snow on the mountains and alongside the road.   However, when we got to the turnoff for the lake, that's when the cleared road stopped.

We walked through the ice covered snow drifts for about 30 yards and decided that was enough in our tennis shoes and shorts!!!   Must say it was peaceful and so beautiful.   Really wished we could have see the lake, but it appears to be under several feet of snow and ice.

Bee Smokers
Drove up to the ski lift, it was closed, still have lots of snow but obviously the season has ended.

Headed back to Haines, OR where we toured the Haines Museum.   Filled with tons of local history, saw many things we have never seen before.

Ice Cutting Saw
Home now and currently catching up on this blog.   Later this afternoon, we'll catch up with our friends Gary & Konnie McManis, who live here in Baker City.

Went over to Konnie and Gary's around 2, had a wonderful visit and their log home is stunning.  What a view they have of the Wallowa's.   I could sit in their living and just stare out the window at this view.

They fixed us a steak dinner and we caught up on everything in our lives.  Love visiting with these long time friends from Tyee Yacht Club!!!

May 19, 2017

Left Boise around 7 and headed La Peep to catch Randy and Deb Carrell's for breakfast, however Randy didn't show as he's sick.   Had a wonderful visit with Deb, love chatting with her!!!

Geiser Hotel
After breakfast, headed to Baker City, OR.   We could see the snow in the Wallowa's, they are stunning.  Sun is shining so we are hoping that we have good weather while in Baker.   We arrived around 10, easy drive today.

Fossilized snake and horny toad
Checked into Mt View RV Park, nice RV park.  Once settle, headed to the Oregon Interpretive Center, where you learn tons of history on the Oregon Trail and the difficulties the settlers had in getting to Oregon.   It's amazing that any made it honestly!!!

Our next stop was the Geiser Hotel, wanted to take a tour but have to wait until 3:30 so we walked over to the Baker Museum, stopping by a few places along the way.   It's a nice little museum filled with local history.   The room I liked the best was the fossil room!!!  Interesting rocks and fossils!!!

Walked back to the hotel and took the tour.   Could only handle about 20 minutes, the tour guide just wasn't interesting to us, so we headed back to the RV.

2017 Idaho

May 18th, 2017

Played golf with Ed, didn't play his course but another local course called Banbury.   Very nice course except with all the rain that Boise got lately, many holes had water issues.

After golf, we went to Louie's for dinner to celebrate our anniversary and Stacy's birthday.  Had a wonder dinner.

May 17th, 2017

Weather update, no snow!!!!  But extremely cold, we ARE FREEZING!!!!   What were we thinking of leaving this early?

Spent the morning visiting with Stacy while Bobby went and ran errands with Ed.  Later Bobby and I went to Walmart and Camping World to pick up several items we needed.   We are now back at the house, will have ribs for dinner (Stacy spoils us).

It's very cold here (only 41 at 6:00 PM) so not sure if we'll play golf tomorrow.

May 16th, 2017

After leaving Wells, NV where we spent the night, we headed to Twin Falls, ID.  I had planned to spend the night, but once we got there, we decided to head to Boise, to our friends Stacy and Ed's home.

Weather was good when we arrived in Twin Falls so I wanted to go to Shoshone Falls, which is considered the Niagara of the west.  With all the rainfall that Idaho has gotten figured it would be flowing in full force, it did not disappoint me.

Went out on the platflat form, felt the mist and all.   You get an incredible view of the falls from this area.  It was an incredible picture to say the least!!!   Picture perfect, at least for me!!!!

Got back to the motorhome and I decided to take hwy 30, which goes thru Hagerman, ID to see the 1,000 springs.   They are beautiful but extremely difficult to get a pic with my phone since they are across the river from the hwy and no way to get closer with the motorhome.  Next time, I'll have to research how to get up close and personal.

Arrived at Ed & Stacy's around 4 PM.   Stacy ordered pizza for us, had a great evening just catching up with them.  After dinner helped put sheets over Stacy's flowers, as they are forecasting snow.   Not exactly what we had anticipated!!!!

2017 Utah

May 15, 2107

Left around 8 AM, heading to the Great Basin National Park where we'll tour the Lehman Caves.

We arrived at 10 and our tour was not until 1, thought about not taking our tour, as the weather is looking like snow but we decided to stay, if necessary, we agreed we spend the night at the NP campground.

Took the grand tour, which lasted 2 hrs.   It was one of the best caverns that we have seen, and we have seen many!!!!   If you go, make sure you take the grand tour, as they other one was only an hour, which means you miss one of the rooms.

Our guide gave us lots of history on the caves, orginal owner and

May 14, 2017

Caught up with Tom and Sonja Liles at the new home in Sunriver housing area of St. George.   They have just built this incredible home.   Sold their Oregon home and now will become residents of UT.

Had lunch at their golf course restaurant and Tom took us on a tour of their facility.   You wouldn't believe how big this area is, 7 phases and still growing.

May 13, 2017

We played 9 holes of golf at Dixie Red Hills Golf Course (played with two gentlemen that were beginners....had fun, Bobby gave them several pointers, they were very appreciative.) went and did some shopping and looked around St George today.

St George has grown considerably since we were here 5-6 years ago, no wonder Tom & Sonja and Jackie and Gordon moved here.   So many restaurants, parks, stores, etc.  Certainly can't get bored in this town and Zion National Park is just a short drive away.

May 12, 2017

Left Havasu around 6:30 and headed to Henderson, so we could get the oil changed in motorhome at Camping world.   Our appointment was at 10:30, so we dropped it off and headed to breakfast,  shopping at Costco, Best Buy, etc.  Got back to the coach and still had to wait 2 hrs, so we hit the road around 4, arriving in St. George at 6.

Went to dinner at the Elks, just love this lodge.   Took at walk around the Dixie Red Hills golf course after dinner, great place to walk off the calories from dinner.

Leaving Arizona on our way to the NW, May 2017

It's that time of the year, when it's time for us to hit the road, although the weather in Lake Havasu  has been wonderful and really we could have waited until the end of May to leave.  But, I've made drs appts in Portland and we want to celebrate our girlfriend Stacy's birthday on the 19th (we're actually  celebrating on 18th as they have a commitment of 19th).

Left the park at 6:20 and headed to LV to have the oil changed in the motorhome at Camping World.  Once it was completed, we then headed onto St. George, UT, where we'll spend three nights.  Here we'll see our friends Tom & Sonja Liles, Jackie and Gordon Ortelli and Bill and Teri Petarcik.

We arrived at about 6:30 (we lost an hour since UT is in mountain time), got settled in and then went over to the Elks Lodge (#1723), where we had seafood for dinner.   We love staying here, the view is amazing and the camping area is extremely clean and they give us 50 amps!!!  Can't beat that.

After dinner, I took a walk (need to get rid of that fried seafood, even though it was delicious).  Went to Dixie Red Hill Golf Course (just below the Elks), got us a tee time for Sat and then walked around the course (they gave me permission).   It was a lovely walk.

Got back to the coach around 8:30, still lite out, summer is almost here!!!!

Tomorrow, it's golf and then looking around town, as it's been 5-6 years since we've been here.
