Vancouver / Portland 6/29/15

Bobby is feeling much better, in fact after breakfast he went to have coffee with his car buddies.   This is the first time he's driven the truck in almost a month.

While he's out and about, I did a few things around the coach, hemmed a shirt and worked on my blog.

This afternoon, we might go over to Ron & Paula's.   Temps are going up so will have to stay in the shade.   Can't believe the weather this summer so far. Great for us, bad for Oregon.   They are not the far behind AZ & CA.   If they don't get water soon, many house boats will be high and dry come August & September.

Vancouver / Portland 6/28/15

Had breakfast with Ron at restaurant called Valerie's.   Paula could not join us, as she was watching their grandson Hunter play in a lacrosse game.

Had to laundry to do, so we headed to the Laundromat after breakfast.  One of those days that we need to catch up on chores, so that's what we did.

Came home and I made zucchini muffins.   They are delicious, if I say so myself.

Spent the rest of the day just laying around, as Bobby is tired.   To much activity over the past few days.

Vancouver / Portland 6/27/15

Stopped at Broadmoor to have breakfast.   Bobby wanted to say hello to his friends in the men's club.
Saturday Market
Afterwards, we went to the Portland Saturday market.   This is one of my favorites in this area.   It's located up near Portland State University.   Walked around and looked at all the fruits and vegetables.   We did buy a couple of zucchini's, so I can make muffins and zucchini patties.   I would have bought some other stuff, but once we finish here, we are heading to Steve & Shelley's place to see them along with our goddaughter.

Shelley, Loran & Emily

We finished at the market around 10 and headed to Steve & Shelley's.  We haven't seen them since last time we were in Portland.   Bobby & Steve have known each other since grade school.   Had a great visit, nice to see Stacy (goddaughter) and her twin daughters.   Emily & Loran have grown so much.  Dylan wasn't there, he had taken a cruise with his paternal grandmother to Alaska.   Eric (Stacy's husband) had to work.   Since it's so dry, he was on lightening watch.   He works to Gustina Corporation and they own thousand of acres of forest.   Just a precaution, but a necessary one.

Bobby & Steve

Left there house around 2, stopped and said hello to Danny & Olga for about 20 min, then headed home.   Bobby was tired but feeling great.

Vancouver / Portland 6/26/15

Had lunch with our long time friends John & Judy Hazen.   We all used to belong to Tyee Yacht club.  We met a the Stardust Restaurant here in Vancouver.  It's an old looking trailer that has a 50's décor.  Food was excellent but company was better!

Afterwards, we decided (ok, I decided), to go to Vancouver Mall to get a walk in.   We thought about going to Portland but traffic was horrible with everyone trying to go to the beach to beat the heat.   Tomorrow is supposed to be 102 with a heat index of 108.

My brother Rog had thought about coming down to visit, but once I told him about the temps, they elected to stay up North.   Better for all of us, as we wouldn't do much outside with the high temps.

Got home around 5 and decided we'd go over to the Elks for dinner.   While we were sitting at the bar enjoying a beverage, this lady came up to me and asked if I was Jolene.   I said yes and she reminded us that they used to belong to Hayden Island Yacht club.   We moved to their table and reminisced about out Yacht Club days.   What a wonderful time we had with Jerry & Judi Bower.   We all agreed we get together again, before we leave Vancouver.

Vancover / Portland 6/25/15

I played golf today with Paula.  We went of early, since it's supposed to be in the high 90's.   Oregon is having an extremely unusual heat wave for June.   The water levels are at August levels and the temps are extremely high for anytime of summer for this part of the NW.

It's good for us, as we didn't want the rain and cold temps anyway, but for the Oregonians, they are suffering.   Did you noticed I didn't included us in the Oregonians?   Believe me, we've become Arizonians.   We love the warmer temps, although don't miss the 110+ temps.   Still tough for me to handle, but getting better.

Got home from golf around 2, picked up some lunch before getting home.   Good thing, as I was exhausted.   Not sure if it was the heat/humidity or what, but I was exhausted.

Stayed in side in the ac the rest of the evening.   Bobby is doing better but still has issues.   He can't wait until the 30th, we certainly hope shot works.

Vancouver /Portland 6/24/15

Went to breakfast at Broadmoor, so we could say hello to everyone.   Scott Kreger, owner, is playing in the US Senior Open starting Thursday and we wanted to find out some information.  Learned he tees off at 2:30 on Thursday.

Then we headed to Don Lee Motors to say hello to Rod & Robbie.   We've know Rod since we interviewed them to come into Tyee Yacht Club back in 1993 or so.   They own a used car business that's doing well.   Robbie got married three years ago and now has three beautiful kids.   Rod mom Bev is doing great at 88, his dad past away in 2013.   They were also members of Tyee.

Drove to DSU on Swan Island, they reprogramed our remote entry keys for the truck.   Didn't even charge us....very nice.

Next stop was the Water Bureau, Bobby wanted to see all the changes they are making.  It's amazing, basically none of the old buildings exist.   Bobby saw his friend Duck, they had a nice visit and caught up with each other.

We then drove down Union Ave, nothing really has changed, to get to the I-5.   Got home early afternoon and then did nothing the rest of the afternoon.

Vancouver / Portland 6/23/15

Bobby is tired so he's staying home today.   I had a lunch date with my girlfriend Noel Paul.    We met at her office up on Sylvan, near the zoo.   Had lunch at Mexican restaurant, not very good.

Coming home traffic was horrible so I had to zig zag through the streets to get from Zoo to the 205 bridge.   I-5 was a parking lot!!!!   Horrible traffic.

Got home around 3, Ron Brown was here visiting with Bobby.  Thank goodness he comes to visit while I'm out and about having a good time.   Thanks Ron!!!

Vancouver / Portland 6/22/15

Bobby is feeling good, so we head to Target near the Portland Airport.   First we stop at IHOP and had breakfast.   Then we go to Target and pick up the ice maker, I rec. a notice that they had it on sale for $119.99 vs. $159 when we saw it a couple of days ago.   Yes, we bought it.

Fisherman's has zip off pants on sale, so we headed to Delta Park to look at them.  Bought Bobby a pair.   Since we've been here two yrs ago, they've put a Walmart near the Fisherman's.  Small store but sure the neighborhood likes it.

We then head to HH to see Bobby's friend Chuck Bell.   Had a great visit, his business is still doing great.  Chuck sells used cars.

We call Ron & Paula to see what they are up to, they were out and about so we head home.   I drop of Bobby and head to the mall.   Need to get my steps in and it's a great place to get them.   No, I did not buy anything but did look at a lot of stuff.

After dinner got Bobby to go on  a mile walk with me.   He's doing better, just needs to take it slow.

Vancouver / Portland 6/21/15

Bobby is worn out, did too much last two days!   So, I went looking for the ice maker.   Searched several stores, nothing!!!!    After about 3 hrs, decided I've had enough and headed home.

Watched the US Open, Chambers Bay sure is a tough course.    Both of us are doubtful we'll ever play it.

Went for my walk in the evening, walking up Ellsworth is god for the calves, but tough on me.   I walk about 3 miles but through out the day try to get my 10,000 steps, which I usually achieve.

Vancouver / Portland 6/19/15

Didn't do much, a little shopping.   Bobby is feeling pretty good, back is getting stronger every day.

USA Open is on, so I watched it and caught up on my chores.    Bobby is tired (usually happens in the afternoon), so he took it easy after dinner.

Vancouver / Portland 6/20/15

Bobby is feeling much better so we had breakfast and headed to see Aunt Boo.   Visited with her and Jan, for a couple of hours.   Jan was babysitting Bo, Nikki's son.   He's about 1 1/2, so cute....all boy, that's for sure.    Aunt Boo looked great!

I wanted some Dahlia's, so went to the Dahlia farm.   They had some beautiful yellow ones, which I bought but the fields are not very big.    Doubt we'll see them in bloom this year.   Not sure where the ones I bought came from.

We then headed to Costco, looking for a portable ice maker.    They don't carry them, so we headed to Target.   Found an Emerson that we like, but decided to look around at other stores.  Headed to Washington Square to look at Sears, they only have them online.   We've decided to look at Walmart and Fred's.

Danny & Olga are home, so we headed to their house.   Had a nice visit, they both look great.

Next we headed to Steve &Shelly's, but they weren't home, so we headed to the coach.  On the way, we stop at Reser's Foods and pick up a few of our favorite things from them.

Bobby is tired but did great for being out and about all day.

Vancouver /Portland 6/18/15

Went and got a haircut.   Much shorter than normal, but looks nice, at least Bobby thinks so!

Got back around 11:30, fed Bobby lunch and then we went to see Ron Brown.  Yes, Bobby is doing much better.  Even sat up in the car all the way!   Visited with Ron for about an hour, then we came home.

Took the coach to the dump station (I drove again) and came back and parked in a 50 amp spot,  90's are coming next week and it's nicer to have both airs going!!!   I'm spoiled!!!!

Bobby is tired from all the activity over the last two days so he's taking a nap/resting.   Hopefully haven't pushed it too hard.   We'll see how he feels in the morning, they are the roughest on him.

Vancouver / Portland 6/17/15

Met with the back specialist today.   The two disks are the L3 and the T12.   I thought they'd be close together but they are not.  In the picture, the area in yellow is the T12.  The L3 is the almost at the bottom of the spine and is not a concern to the Dr.   However, he thinks the T12 is the culprit and will give an injection, since we've already tried prednisone which didn't help.

The MRI we did was not complete, in that it did show all the T disks, so we have to go have another MRI.  The assistant to Dr. Gambee made the calls and will make sure we are not charged for a seconded MRI since it was their fault.  Thank you Dr. Gambee

Injection is schedule for 30th, we have to go the hospital.   Once they do the injection, he has to stay their to 2-3 hrs.  Hopefully this works, if not, we'll talk about surgery on the 14th, when we see Dr. Gambee again.

Dr. did say his spine is in great shape, which made us happy.   He seemed fairly positive that the injection should cure the problem.   Fingers are crossed.

Bobby felt great after visit, so we went to Panda Express for lunch.  While driving home, Vancouver Radiology called, we are going in at 5 PM to get the MRI done..

Came home and rested for about an hr, then we went to see John & Judy Hazen, old friends from our days in Tyee Yacht Club.   Had a great visit and then had to go get MRI.    Afterwards, Bobby was hurting so came home.  Long day for him.

Vancouver / Portland 6/16/15

Had my eye appointment today.   Eyes have changed a little, now need glasses for farsighted and nearsighted!   What the heck, getting old is just not fun.

Since I live in AZ most of the time, eye dr. suggested I order prescription sunglasses.   All that sun can cause cataracts, so I'll order them.   We see how bifocals work....not excited but realize it time to accept I'm getting older....lol.

Received a call from Bobby's regular dr., he has 2 herniated disks.   Nervous about what that means, but we're hoping it's a simple fix.

Vancouver / Portland 6/15/14

Today we had the MRI for Bobby.  Hoping that they find something simple, we should know Wednesday when we talk to back specialist.

Bobby felt ok, not great, so we went to Burgerville for lunch.   It was horrible....won't be going there again!   Burgerking is much better.

Brought him home and then I went to go the mail.   Traffic was ok, I'm telling you, it's amazing how much traffic there is in this town.   So glad I don't have to fight it every day.

Vancouver / Portland 6/14/15

Nothing exciting going on, so I decided to go do our laundry.   It's a boring job, but has to be done!

After it was done, ran a few errands.   Got home around 12:30, made lunch and read the newspaper.  Nothing exciting in it!   Good thing I guess.

Bobby still not good, so just staying in.   He's depressed but glad MRI is tomorrow and we can determine our next move!

Vancouver / Portland 6/13/15

My sister Margie and myself
Our old house in Portland...back yard
I spent the day with my sister Margie.   We met in Salem (she drove in from Lincoln City), had a great time shopping, having lunch and just catching up on each others lives.

On my way to Salem, I took a detour through Hubbard, where we grew up.   The picture of the house, is where we lived.   The family built this house, it was completed in 1970 I believe.   It sure needs a lot of TLC.   The town hasn't changed much, however the filbert filled at the end of A street is now turning into houses.   Sad but yet nice to see that things are growing in this small town.    Also stopped at Voget Meats, picked up some pepperoni, it's well know meat market.  It's been in Hubbard, longer than I've been around.   When we were kids, we used to have all of our meat processed there.

Voget Meats in Hubbard
Hubbard Post Office
Got home around 5, traffic was a little hectic.   Bobby was glad to see me.   Our friend Ron Brown brought him lunch (hamburger) and they had a nice long visit while I was gone.   Thanks Ron, really appreciate your bring lunch to him.

Bobby is up and down but pain never goes away.  We can't wait until next week, when we find out what's causing this pain!!!

Vancouver / Portland 6/12/15

Bobby is feeling a little better so I decide I can play golf with Ron & Paula.   We play at Heron Lakes, the green side.  All three of us walk.  I played like a beginner.   Taking 3-4 weeks off was extremely rough on my game.   Couldn't keep the old head down.   At least by the 10th hole, I was doing better.

Got home around 3, Bobby seemed a little down.   He's very discouraged that he's not better!   Will be glad when Monday is here and we get the MRI done!

We both went for a walk around the parking lot of Elks, with the back brace on, he does fairly well, even though the pain never goes away!

Vancouver / Portland 6/11/15

Took Bobby to therapy, regular routine now days!  Afterwards I had some errands to run in Portland so left around 11:30.

Went to our mail box and then to the regular post office, as our mail box place was out of stamps.   Last night I printed the Classie Ladies letters and wanted to get them mailed.

Shopped a little at Home Goods and Marshalls, found a few gifts for friends.   Got home around 3, Bobby was excited to see me.   He seems to feel better.   Even laughs at the TV....very good sign.

Vancouver / Portland 6/10/15

Took Bobby to therapy, we discussed his progress, which does seem to be improving.   Talked about the electric shocks and how they seem to help.   His therapist suggest we get a machine, which we can rent from the Ten's company (she made all the arrangements).   Got a lesson on how to use and then she did her thing with Bobby.  She also recommend a simple back brace!

After dropping Bobby off at home, head to Dr. Gambie's office (his back specialist that we'll see on 17th), wanted to make sure I knew how to get there.  It's a simple 10 min drive.

Next went to find him a back brace.   Fred Meyer's had one on sale that I thought would work.

I want to go to the Back Yard Bird shop and look for a new hummingbird feeder, they have unique ones.   I looked around and decided to wait.   Not sure why!!!   However, I did buy a hand held feeder, so I can hopefully get the hummingbirds to eat out of my hand.  Can't wait to try it.

Got home and Bobby tried the back brace.   What a difference that made when sits at the table or goes out to walk.   Yeah!!!!

Vancouver / Portland 6/9/15

This morning I cleaned house and then in the afternoon went to meet with our financial advisor.   Got a great report.   At this moment, our accounts are doing great.   I was so happy to see we made money vs. loose.   I rarely look at the accounts and was pleasant surprised to see how much they increased over the past two years.   Think we can make it for another 5-10 years....lol.

The advisor is in Tigard, about 15 min south of Portland but since it was after 2 PM, knew traffic would be a major problem getting across the I-5 bridge.   Thank goodness I know the town and knew how to take surface streets to the I-205 bridge which was a breeze to cross.

Thank goodness I don't have to go to Portland on a daily basis....I hate Portland traffic.   Guess I've become a small town girl!!!

Vancouver / Portland 6/8/15

Today was filled with my Dr appts, mamogram, therapy for Bobby and a phone appt. with my kidney specialist.

My dr. gave me a pretty good report, only thing my cholesterol and triglyceride's are high.  Need to make sure I take my medicine daily.   It's very hard for me when we are not on a regular schedule, but promised I'd get better.

After my drs I took Bobby to therapy, he was hurting pretty bad from no treatments over the weekend, so therapist gave him more shock treatments.  They seem to help the most.   He never feels good afterwards, so we came home.

Later in the afternoon, my kidney specialist called, he worried about my test results.   Leaking protein and is concerned my kidney disease my be returning.   Have to increase my blood pressure medicine, hopefully that will make my levels go back to normal.   Will have to retest my blood first of the month.  Sure hope this disease has not come back!!!!

Vancouver/ Portland 6/7/15

Didn't do much, Bobby was not feeling great and since I was gone most of yesterday, felt like I should stick around.   Worked on my classie ladies letters, for our upcoming golf tournament in November, went for a short walk and worked on my pinecone flowers.    In other words, not much!!

Vancouver / Porltand 6/6/15

Paula at finish line
Starting the walk
Today is parade day!!!!   Paula and I did the 4.2 mile walk, which leads off the parade.   We had a great pace at 15 min. a mile.   Actually is was a leisure walk with the 106.7 Eagle radio station.   They are a sponsor of the Rose Parade.   Had a fun time singing songs, chanting, etc with the group.   At the end of the walk, they fed us turkey sandwiches, we were starving.

Float in parade
Afterwards, we walked to the max and caught the train back to the coliseum area.   Found Paula's son Tom, he a Hillsboro policeman and was helping work the crowd at the parade.   Visited with Tom for about 30 min and then headed home.  By the time we got on the Max, we'd walked 6.2 miles, most Paula has walked in a day!!!

White Stag Sign

Got home around 1:30 and Bobby wasn't feeling very good.  Fed him lunch and thankfully feels better.

Now we are watching the Belmont Horse Race....rooting for American Pharoah.    She just won the triple crown....way to go!!!!

Vancouver/Potland 6/5/15

Bobby is doing better but still can't sit.   So, once again, we can't do much of anything.   I do run a couple of errands, I had to run to Tigard to pick up our tee shirts and wrist bands for tomorrow Rose Parade Walk.

Got home around 1 and Bobby was feeling pretty good.   I'm hoping that by end of next week, he'll be back to almost normal.   Biggest hope, is that after his 3 physical therapy sessions next week, he'll be able to sit.   I know it's hard on him no being mobile!

Vancouver/Portland 6/4/15

Didn't do much, Bobby is hurting from his 2nd physical therapy appt.  While he was at therapy, I went to a local strawberry farm and picked 2 lbs of fresh strawberries.   I must have ate 1/2 lb while picking my strawberries, nothing better than fresh berries.

In the afternoon I went for my daily walk but otherwise, not much happening in the Yancey family. Although I did make Bobby a strawberry milkshake....delicious!!!

Vancouver/Portland 6/3/15

Bobby had his first Physical Therapy appt. today.   Went better than I anticipated, as he was able to stand for about 15 min afterwards.   Huge improvement.  Still no sitting, however!!!   Getting him to and from the appt. is a challenge, since sitting is impossible.  Thank goodness it's only 10 min away.

Came home and I went for a 5 mile walk.   I found another route to take on my walks, which give me a major hill to walk up, good for my core!   While on my walk, it started to rain, correction, pour.   Thankfully there was a Jack-n-the-box and I could wait out the storm.   I was only about 1/2 mile from home, so no big deal.

Tuesday, June 2, 2015

Vancouver/Portland 6/2/15

Bobby seems to be much better this morning, still in bed but seems more cheerful.   Started him on the prednisone, so hopefully by tomorrow, he'll be able to sit up.

I had a few errands to run, so headed to Portland to run to our PO Box, pick up some florescent lights for the bedroom, went to IKEA, saw my cousin John Kyllo.  Had a nice visit, caught up on each others lives.   Got home around noon, fed Bobby, gave him more drugs.

He was napping, so I went to Costco to look around.  Gone about an hour, I've decided I would make a good nurse, don't like sitting around doing nothing.   I get bored way to easy, as if you didn't know that....lol.

Vancouver/Portland 6/1/15

Bobby still not feeling good, in fact took him to see another dr here in Vancouver.   This is the one that ER recommended we see.   Got him there and his back was killing him.  Luckily, they had a room available immediately, as sitting is extremely difficult.    The dr. asked questions and reviewed his xray from the other day.   Explained there is not much she could help with since it's mostly arthritis starting to develop.   Did give him a prscription for prednisone, which should help.  Also recommended we start physical therapy and see a back specialist.

This means we might be spending the summer in the Portland/Vancouver area.   I made an appt. on 17th with back specialist, hopefully that will give us indiciation whether or not we need to stay here.

Came home and gave him more drugs, he is eating a little better.....thank goodness.   Since this has all started, he's lost 8 lbs.   Not a good way to loose weight!!!
