2017 Washington

June 26, 2017

Aurora, Winnie, Ember & Sabrina
Lita, Rog, Hunter, Winnie, Aurora & Bob
Had breakfast with the family, then drove out to our niece's new
place in Duvall, WA, which is about 1 hr from here.   When we were there here 2 years ago, they were just starting the building, now it's 99% finished.

It was fun seeing Sabrina, her two girls (Aurora & Ember) and her step son Hunter.  Our oldest great niece Tempest (Lita's sister) wasn't there, off visiting friends and Darren was working.

Sabrina gave us the grand tour, they've done a fabulous job at designing this home.
Sabrina & Darren's Home

Sabrina & Uncle Bob
After visiting for several hours, Sabrina took us into Duvall and we had lunch at the local Chinese restaurant.  Afterwards we walked around looking in the antique shops, etc.

Jo, Jen, Teagan & Lita
Left naval base around 8 and Bobby head to our next stop, Angel of the Winds Casino.  Closest place to my brother's place to park the motorhome.

Lita and I drove to our niece Jen's home in La Conner and visited with her for a few hours.  Had a wonderful visit with Teagan, her youngest daughter.  Dustin and Juna (her oldest daughter) where in Spokane for a basketball tournament, so unable to see them.

Decoration in Rog's neighbor's yard
Picked up Bobby around 2 and headed to Rog's house, where we spent the remainder of the afternoon/evening.  Took at walk with Rog down to the river that he lives on, still quite high but temp was actually bearable, , that's if you're 12!

After dinner took a walk looking for deer and visiting with his neighbors, then headed home.   Great day!

Last day on the island, so went for a walk.  I certainly have enjoyed being here!!!

The naval base is celebrating their 75th anniversary of being on the island, so Rog, Bobby, Lita and I went to the base to see the planes.

Our first stop was the main tent, here they had all the divisions try to recruit individuals, sell stuff, etc.  They also had a rock climbing wall, which Lita and I tried.   It's 35' tall and had 3 levels, of which we both did the easiest.    I made it to the top!!!!!   The instructor was telling me where to place my feet, which certainly helped, as some to the footholds are hard to see.  Lita got scared and only did about 5', Rog and Bobby didn't attempt it!
Outside they had a great display of their planes, of which some you were allowed to
climbing inside.

They also provided a display of the rescue helicopter in action, that was interesting.

Later in the afternoon, took another walk on the beach.  Never get tired of the beach!  After dinner Lita and I went to the sing-a-long at the fire pit.   That was fun!

Rog and I got up and took a ride down to watch the planes while the family slept.   We were to early but did see 3 bald eagle!!!

Spent the day Walking on the beach, as the tide was a minus 3.6, one of the lowest tides this area has every seen.

In between the beach walks, played games, cards, went to the commissary, etc.  Rog told me  about
these sign that they make and place in the park, so I decided to give it a try, it turned out great, but instead of placing in the park, Winnie (my sister-n-law) is taking home!!!!!   I'm so g
lad she's keeping it!

Ebey Landing
Took a drive to Coupeville and Langley, which are south of Oak Harbor.   Coupeville was our first stop, the stores don't open until 11, so we had about an hour to waste, which wasn't hard.   Walked down to the water, looked for starfish, but apparently 2 years ago, they got a fungus and it killed all the starfish from California up to Canada.   They are just starting to come back, this is per a gentleman on the dock.

First car in Coupeville
The local museum was open, so we HAD to visit...lol.   Had some interesting artifacts!

Ebey Landing is just down the road, so we went and took a tour of the blockhouse that they built.  This is the only reserve that's part of the National park system.

Next stop was Langley, honestly, not our cup of tea.  Only a few shops to peak into, but they did have an ice cream shop, of which we indulged.

Played golf at the Naval base golf course called the gallery.  As always, had a fun time playing our bi-annual round of golf.   However, this year I beat Roger!!!!!   YEAH!!!
When we got back, decided to walk on the beach, play games, etc.   This is what vacation is all about!

Cliffside RV Park
On the Ferry
Travel day, headed from Sequim, WA to Port Townsend, WA to catch the ferry.  We've done this once before, makes for a quick way to get to Whidbey Island and around Seattle!  We arrived at the terminal about 1.5 hrs early and they let us catch the 8:45 ferry vs. our scheduled departure of 10:15.

When we arrived in Oak Harbor, we parked at Walmart and waited for my brother, who arrived around 1.   Then we headed to Cliffside RV park located at the naval base in Oak Harbor.  My brother is retired m
aster chief from the Navy, so we were able to stay at this amazing RV park on the base.

Our to spots faced the ocean, we  only had to walk about 1 block to get to the beach, all though we could have thrown a rock into the ocean, if I had a pitching arm!  Nope, I played catcher!!!

Got settled in and then Rog, Lita and I took a walk on the beach, nothing better than sand in your toes!!

It was my turn to cook dinner, so had to get back to do that.  We've done this for years, where one night I plan and cook, then the next night it's their turn.  Works great for us!

Golf Board
Fixed the leak on the toilet and then headed to Cedars at Dungeness to play golf.   Bobby rented a golf board and I walked.   What a blast it was to use the golf board but must say, it's more work than we wanted!   It uses every muscle you have in your legs and core to turn it.  Great way to exercise but we were playing golf not riding a surf board...lol.

Port Williams Beach
It's overcast and misty, but we decided the weather would not keep me from taking a walk on the beach.   We heard that the Port Williams Beach was a great place to go find sea glass.  Guess everyone else heard that and took it all!!!!   We'll look again this afternoon when tide is lower.

RR Bridge
Drove over to the Railroad Bridge Park.  This bridge is from the 1920's and was stopped using in 1980.  It's now used as a walking/bicycle park.  The path leads all the way to Port Angeles.   We walked about a 1/2 mile.

We tried to locate what Bobby thought was the New Lighthouse, GPS actually took us into a neighborhood, but we did find a mother doe and her two fawns.   The lighthouse is out on a spit and it's a 5.5 mile walk one way, we might try it tomorrow.

Around 3, decided to go back to Port Williams Beach, guess what!!! Still no sea glass, but we got in about a mile walk!   Weather is still not sunny but at least its stopped raining.

June 17, 2017

Arrived at the Sequim Elks around 11 and then headed into town to catch some lunch.   Ate at the local Chinese restaurant, it was good, then walked across the street to the Bonsai show.   Interesting to see that they used Rhodies and Azaleas plus Juniper, and other trees to create the bonsai's.   There was an instructor showing you how to use wire to branches so that you can manipulate the limbs.

Afterwards walked around their Saturday market.   It's small but nice, didn't buy anything.   While walking over to main street, met a couple with a bird, her name was Sarah.   Very friendly except she didn't particularly like women, loves men!!!

Walked around town, looking in the shops, fun little town.

June 16, 2017

Played golf with Carl today.   Didn't play all that great, but I played from the furthest tee's in hopes of keeping me in shape for my tournament in November.

After golf, went into town, looked around and then headed back to coach.   Around 5, Carl picked up Bobby, they headed into town to pick up pizza and then I headed to their house.   Had pizza, visited and said our goodbyes.  It was fun to see these two!

June 15, 2017

It's raining, correction, it's pouring outside, so we'll stay inside today!

Dow Creek RV park
Arrived at Dow Creek around 10, after settling in, I went for a walk  around the park,   Great area to admire the beauty of this area.

Large Cedar in Staircase
Got back and headed to the Grand Staircase in the Olympic National Park.  One of my favorite hikes in this area.   Because of all the rain this winter, everything is plush and green.   We certainly could see the damage caused by the amount of rain this area received.

The creek that runs through the park was full to it's brim.  Made for some great pics!!

Got home around 3, then waited for our friend Carl Kliese to show up.  Bobby is going to play golf with him tomorrow.   Carl got here around 6 and we visited for a while.  He and Bette own a park model in our resort in Havasu.

Hearst Carriage
Left Seaside and head to Raymond, WA to visit the Northwest Carriage Museum.   We haven't been here in over 15 years.   Must say, it's just a great as it was the first time, plus they added an addition to their building, providing more carriages to view.   Also on the outside they've added new displays plus a local artists has provided some interesting metal art.

Next stop was the Little Creek Casino, where we spent the night.   Great little RV park attached to this casino.

Used in Paint Your Wagon movie
Drove up to the Salish Golf Course, one of the top 10 in Washington.  Decided not to play, weather is just not looking like it conducive to playing.   We are fair weather golfers!!!

Around 6 we drove over to our friends Scott Smith's place.  Since we saw them 2 years ago, they've moved to a town called Allyn, WA.   They bought a home with 5 acres, it's out in the middle of no where, not us!!!   Even though I loved the setting, just couldn't live this far from no where!!!
