Erie, PA 2012

Bobby playing in Lake Erie
Went back out to the State Park, immediately went to pontoon boat facility and got a reservation on the 11:00 tour (it’s free).   The loaded 16 of us on the boat and showed us around the lagoon and part of Misery Bay.   Very nice but did not see anything other than geese and turtles.   Afterwards we drove around and saw the two lighthouses and put our feet in Lake Erie…..it’s a beautiful lake.   Temp was 75, should have brought our swim suits.

Then we headed to downtown.   Erie is PA fourth largest city, just in case you didn’t know that piece of trivia.   We stopped at Dobbins Landing, walked around but not much to see, few shops, etc.    Left there and head up town for lunch.   Did a little geochasing but did not find them.   Then we headed to the Nature Center…..not our cup of tea…..nothing to see…very disappointed.   Came home, tomorrow we’ll drive to Sandusky, OH.

Admiral Perry's monument

Visited the State Park, it’s a huge State Park that extends out into Misery Bay and borders Lake Erie on the North side.   Stopped at the pontoon boat facility to see if we could get on a tour, but they were booked.   Need to come back tomorrow before 10:00 AM and sign up.  We decided not to spend much time driving around, as we need to see if we can fix the awning over the driver’s living room slide.   Got home and proceeded to investigate the problem….it was apparent we’d have to replace the awning.   Called several places but Erie does not have the capability to fix our problem.   Only solution is to cut it away from the motorhome and secure it in the roll mechanism until we can reach South Dakota or get back to Havasu.   We have to remove the roller, etc. and if they can’t re-sew the awning, they’d have to order us a new one, which takes 1-2 weeks.
