Arriived in Amarillo

May 20, 2012

American Quarter Horse Museum
Arrived in Amarillo around 3:00 their time.   Had to go to Costco and do a little geocashing prior to leaving Albuquerque.   Trip was uneventful....not much to see along the way!   However when you get into TX, it certainly is green and flat.   It's beautiful in Amarillo.  Weather is cloudy, but nice....77 degrees...so much nicer than Havasu.   Went inside the Elks (stay at the Amarillo Elks), paid our $10 a night (staying 2 nights) and had a tour of the facility.  It was just remodeled and looks great.   The meeting room has furniture from the original Elks Lodge, dating back to 1924.  We then went to "Cadillac Ranch" to see the Cadillac's stuck in the ground....very interesting.   We did spray paint our names and the date on one of the cars

Palo Duro Canyon - Lighthouse Rock
Got up, had breakfast and head out to see the sites that Amarillo offers.   Went to the downtown area, Palo Duro Canyon, Helium Park and saw two museums.   American Quarter Horse and the RV Museum.   Both were free....excellent.   Tomorrow we are headed for Oklahoma City.

Left Havasu for summer of 2012

Left Havasu at 7:15 this morning. Hope to reach Alberquerque tonight. Going past Windslow, AZ at 12. Saw a terrible wreck just before Kingman....don't think anyone hurt but the semi was destroyed, it was only minutes in front of us. The high altitude near Flagstaff cause some of my cleaner to grow...bathroom now smells like oranges...lol. We did let air down in our bed.

Made it to Albuquerque around 5:00 PM their time.   Forgot about the time change.  Parked at the Elks, small lodge but very nice.  Cost $10 whether you hook up to electricity or not.   We did not.   Had dinner in the Elks, then went to see the movie "Wrath of the Titans"....it's a 3-D movie.

Will head for Amarillo tomorrow

What an amazing place....for the past two days we have toured the park.  First day we did the lower loop and today 1/2 of the upper loop.   this loop is closed on the eastside due to the weather.   It was a great day for both trips. We saw many geysers, various animals, snowed covered mountains, waterfalls, etc.   I can't say enough about this park.   It's much bigger and more beautiful than I remember it as a kid.
